About

The Ultra record player is an automatic, portable record deck with built in speakers. It can play records at 16, 33, 45 and 78 revolutions per minute. The unit uses a valve amplifier, which starts to make a humming noise after a prolonged use.

How does it work?

The valve amplifier initially produces little volume, as the valves are not to full operating temperature, which increases the resistance of the circuit. The player can be set to automatic, which sets the needle to find the start of the record before lowering the stylus onto the vinyl disc. Once it has reached the end of the record, the arm then returns to its starting position, and the platter stops revolving.

Where is it now?

The Ultra record player is still in use, and is a much loved piece of equipment. Its simple operation and good sound quality is what makes this item so special.
