About
The Roland Groovebox is a mix of a drum machine and synthesiser and MIDI. It can be used to mix different tracks to put together sequences of sound. It has 2 LCD screens which can display a variety of information, such as the tempo of the music and the selections of sounds which are used in the current piece of music.
How it works
The Roland Groovebox uses an operating system to control the different functions. It can also read information off a Smartmedia memory card, so that new software and samples can be loaded into the machine. The small keyboard allows for the user to start different tracks, and a series of dials controls the mix of the sounds.
Where is it now?
The Groovebox is rarely used, and is instead stored in its nylon carry case. The machine is complex to use, and requires other pieces of equipment to function. One big downside is the lack of a sampler, which is the reason this piece is so rarely used.
